Community Safety Report: The Statistics Driving Local Support
Figures from mental health initiatives and fitness programmes show the scale of volunteer and access efforts across Coventry.
How we reported this

Coventry hosted a free mental health event that linked 40 volunteers with 730 local social groups during Mental Health Awareness Week to combat loneliness and build community support.
Scale of volunteer connections
The event forms part of wider efforts to strengthen neighbourhood ties through structured outreach. Local organisers used the Mental Health Awareness Week platform to match volunteers directly with existing groups rather than creating new structures. This approach draws on the city's existing network of community organisations and focuses resources on reducing isolation among residents.
Support services listed in council records include the Coventry Wellbeing Hub at Wellington Gardens on Windsor Street. The hub operates drop-in sessions for adults aged 18 and over from 1pm to 5pm Monday through Saturday. Out-of-hours options cover the Safe Haven service for ages 16 and above between 6pm and 11pm daily at the same Windsor Street location.
Fitness access and activity trends
GoodGym launched its Coventry operation on 19 March 2026 as the 49th site in its national network. The programme combines running with community volunteering tasks. City records show 95 percent of residents live within one mile of a health and fitness facility and that 42 fitness suites provide more than 2,080 stations in total. Eighteen of those suites allow community pay-and-play access without membership requirements.
Inactivity rates among the 55 to 74 age group fell from 41.5 percent in 2015/16 to 28 percent in 2021/22. Thirty-five percent of adults now report active travel at least twice a month. These participation numbers sit alongside the April 2026 launch of the Made in Cov Arts & Creative Grants programme, which distributed more than £60,000 across 15 local projects.
