Coventry Approves Phased Housing Growth Across Three Neighborhoods

Coventry City Council approved the first phase of the £450m City Centre South project, which will create nearly 1,000 homes with the first units ready by early 2027.

These approvals reflect ongoing council work to manage housing supply through structured project phases rather than single large builds. The approach allows services such as planning and infrastructure teams to sequence works across multiple neighbourhoods while meeting targets set in earlier plans.

City Centre South Project

The City Centre South initiative is one of the city's largest revitalization efforts, approved in 2021 for up to 1,500 residences, a hotel, retail, and a cinema, with the initial phase expected by summer 2032. City Centre South will transform areas like Bull Yard, Shelton Square, and Hertford Street into a new neighborhood featuring 638 apartments in the latest approved blocks and nearly 700 bicycle parking spots.

Spon End Redevelopment

The Spon End housing estate redevelopment is a £120m initiative adding over 700 new homes across three phases, with the first phase of 257 apartments starting in March 2027 and completion projected for 2035. Council oversight coordinates the phased release of sites with local transport and utility connections.

Eastern Green Estate Plan

The Eastern Green estate plan received approval for its fifth phase, adding 344 homes including 86 affordable units to a total 2,400-home development expected to complete in 2039. This stage-by-stage method lets council services monitor progress on earlier phases before committing resources to later ones.
