GoodGym Coventry Transforms Spring Runners Into Community Volunteers
The running and volunteering group that arrived in the city this spring continues to shape local fitness routines.
How we reported this

GoodGym Coventry launched on March 19, 2026, as the 49th area for the national running and community volunteering programme.
The arrival of GoodGym gives Coventry residents a structured way to combine regular runs with practical help for local projects. Over 25 percent of the city population already takes part in regular athletic activities, and the new group adds a running option that directly supports neighbourhood tasks.
Launch Details and City Reach
GoodGym sessions send participants on runs that end at community sites where they complete short volunteering jobs. The programme operates alongside the city’s existing network of 42 fitness suites that provide more than 2,080 stations, including 18 suites open for community pay-and-play access without membership.
City records show 95 percent of Coventry residents live within one mile of a health and fitness facility, with recent investment exceeding £100 million at sites including Centre AT7 and the Alan Higgs Centre. GoodGym uses these same transport links and open spaces for its routes.
Broader Participation Trends
Walking remains the main fitness activity for 90 percent of UK participants, yet running-based groups such as GoodGym fit the pattern of rising active travel, with 35 percent of Coventry adults now making active journeys at least twice a month. Inactivity rates among residents aged 55 to 74 have already fallen from 41.5 percent in 2015/16 to 28 percent in 2021/22.
People interested in joining can check the GoodGym website or local listings for current session times and meeting points across the city. No further scheduled events have been announced beyond the established weekly format.
